Peruvian potato project won the World Challenge 2007

The Peruvian potato project T’ikapapa has been chosen as the winner of The World Challenge 2007, a global competition promoted by the BBC and Newsweek magazine, in association with Shell.

T’ikapapa beat almost 1000 other projects from around the world to win the challenge. The World Challenge final event took place in The Hague on December 4th. A special programme was aired on BBC World on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th of December, showcasing the awards ceremony where the winning project received its US$20,000 grant from Shell. Two other finalists that received $10,000 each were School for Success (Fondation des Indiens in Haiti, an education project) and Cooking without Gas (Foundation for Sustainable Technologies in Nepal, a sustainable energy project).
